The original Stinson Street School was built in 1894-1895. The building was designed by local architect Alfred W. Peene in a Romanesque Revival style inspired by American Architect Henry Hobson Richardson. In 1915, a second building was erected to the south of the original, also built to designs by Peene.

A gymnaseum was added between the two buildings in 1959. The buildings were designated as Heritage properties in 1989. The school was closed at the end of 2008, and was subsequently bought by developer Harry Stinson who is converting the school into condo units.
