The Garnett's arrived from England in time to oversee the construction of the house designed for them by architect Anthony Butler on a 22 acre property they had purchased on the outskirts of Dundas. They spent their first, and by all accounts bitter, Canadian winter in a small trailer on the site, meeting with their architect as the house took shape. The home is clad in rough-sawn cedar. On the first floor is the kitchen, powder room, study, dining room and family room. Down a few steps is the living room with a massive wall of floor to very high ceiling windows. The living room was positioned in this way to take advantage of the distant views of the the Dundas Valley, Cootes Paradise and Hamilton Bay. Selective cutting of trees at the time of construction opened up the Garnett's views. These views have now been blocked by the mature trees on neighbouring properties. The very private 22 acres provide an oasis for the owners and for their Great Danes. The second floor features the master bedroom and three additional bedrooms. A sunroom and a large deck were added by the owners next to the kitchen.
